A high-volume publishing platform engineered to help a specialist newsroom publish, distribute and monetise content efficiently.
The challenge
A busy digital publication has to move quickly across breaking news, analysis, partner content, newsletters, events and commercial campaigns. Editorial speed cannot come at the expense of consistency, search visibility or governance. The challenge was to reduce repetitive production work, connect external services and keep a media-rich archive responsive as the volume of content continued to grow.
Our approach
We treated the newsroom workflow as part of the product. Content types, taxonomies and reusable article patterns were designed around how editors commission, prepare, review and distribute stories. Strong hierarchy supports rapid scanning on the front end, while related content and category pathways extend useful reading journeys. Commercial placements were considered within the system so campaigns could be delivered without dismantling the editorial experience.
Experience and accessibility
Readers receive a fast, familiar publication experience across desktop and mobile: clear headlines, restrained article widths, legible metadata and dependable navigation between topics. Keyboard navigation, visible focus, semantic headings and meaningful labels support accessibility. Responsive media and reserved layout space reduce disruption as pages load, while careful treatment of embeds protects both readability and performance.
Engineering, performance and maintainability
We created custom WordPress plugins and API integrations to automate recurring editorial and distribution tasks. Structured imports and feeds reduce manual re-entry; reusable publishing controls standardise metadata and placement; integration layers connect content with external newsletter, campaign and operational services. Background processing, validation and logging make automation observable rather than opaque. Cache strategy, database-query review, responsive image generation and selective asset loading help the platform remain responsive under a large archive and frequent publishing activity.
