Sarah Miles

A living digital archive with room for what comes next

An elegant editorial and commerce experience bringing a remarkable body of work, imagery, broadcasts and new activity into one coherent home.

The challenge

A long creative career produces material in many forms: biography, productions, photography, press, video, writing and current announcements. The challenge was to honour that history without creating a dense museum-like archive, while also supporting contemporary communication, newsletter growth and commercial journeys.

Our approach

We organised the experience around discovery rather than chronology alone. Strong visual moments invite exploration, while dependable navigation and repeated editorial patterns help visitors move between career highlights, galleries and current activity. The system leaves room for storytelling and personality but gives editors enough structure to keep the archive coherent as new material is added.

Experience and accessibility

Typography, spacing and image treatment create an editorial quality suited to the subject without competing with the work itself. Galleries and media components adapt across screen sizes, controls remain keyboard reachable and page hierarchy stays understandable to screen readers. We considered alternative text, focus treatment, reduced motion and contrast as part of the art direction. Newsletter and commerce interactions use clear labels and concise feedback, particularly on mobile.

Engineering, performance and maintainability

The Elementor-based WordPress build combines modular editorial layouts with WooCommerce and Stripe-ready payment functionality. Gallery, video, social and newsletter components are integrated into the same visual system rather than appearing as disconnected plugins. Responsive media sizes, lazy loading, caching and careful control of third-party scripts support performance despite a visually rich archive. Reusable templates let the team publish new stories, appearances and products while preserving the design.

Our guiding principleAn archive feels alive when visitors can follow curiosity. We built structure strong enough to hold the collection, then made that structure quiet enough for the work to remain centre stage.
